Stephen M Martin, 76, passed away suddenly June 11, 2026. Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Robert G and Lorraine Martin. Stephen was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was the retired Fire Chief in Agawam who started his career with the Fire Department in 1982, promoted to Lieutenant in 1985, Deputy Chief in 1994 and Fire Chief in 2007 retiring in 2011 after 3 decades of dedicated service for the town of Agawam. He was an original member of the Mass Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response Team, District 4. He was an avid golfer playing many courses including Agawam Country Club and loved to travel, especially to Ireland to golf. He leaves his beloved wife, Denise DellaGuistina, his sons, Conor and his wife Traci of Feeding Hills and Justin and his wife Amy of Southwick, his brothers, Kenny and Philip both of West Springfield, grandchildren, Ivy and Kelsey, his former wife, Regina Martin, stepson, Gabriel Guistina and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Home Service will be held Monday June 22, 2026, at12:45PM at the Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home 1043 Westfield St West Springfield with burial to follow in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours are Sunday June 21, 2026, from 1-4PM. Donations may be made to Shriners Hospital 516 Carew St Springfield, MA 01104 or the Agawam Fire Dept Gift Fund.
