Stephen P. Smrecek, 69, of West Springfield, MA died peacefully at home on December 31, 2022 after a courageous 10-year battle with melanoma and most recently mesothelioma. Born in Springfield, MA on September 11, 1953 to the late Peter T and Theresa A (Bailey) Smrecek, Steve was a 1971 graduate of Springfield Trade High School. He became a licensed plumber in 1977 and went on to own and operate Steve’s Plumbing and Heating for 40 years until his retirement in 2016. Steve’s motto was “work hard, play hard.” He lived up to that motto by taking more than 45 cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe and the Panama Canal. Steve also loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach and eventually bought a second home there. Steve was well known for his “toys” which included two sail boats and two race cars. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a 11 second Camaro. Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Marion (Hass), his two children Laura (Smrecek) Lamonds and her husband Lucas of Chantilly, VA, Jeffrey Smrecek and his wife Caitlin of Watertown, MA and a brother, Peter Smrecek and his wife Valeria of Lake Forest, CA. Steve was blessed with four loving grandchildren, Graham and Nora Lamonds and Madeline and Lily Smrecek who made him light up when they entered the room. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held FRIDAY 10 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in W. Spfld. Calling Hours will be held THURS from 4 to 7 PM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUENRAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., W. SPFLD.
