West Springfield- Thomas Charkiewicz, 83, passed away Sunday, January 5, at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Ludlow on April 8, 1941, to the late Beatrice (Monette) and Edward Charkiewicz. Tom was the loving husband of 51 years to Nancy (Olechna) Charkiewicz and beloved brother of Tony and his wife Debra of Brandon, MS and Roy of NY. Tom also leaves his sister-in-law Carol Skrodzki (Olechna) and her husband Paul, his uncle Rudolph and his wife Theresa of Agawam, MA and his close cousin Mitchell Charkiewicz, his wife Sandra and family of Suffield, CT. He graduated from STCC and received his bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst. Tom was a creator and innovator in the computer industry for 38 years. He owned and founded MTI Systems, Inc. in West Springfield and was a longtime member of the West Springfield Rotary Club. Tom attended St. Joseph’s National Catholic Church in Westfield. Tom loved the outdoors. He was an avid golfer and a member of Springfield Country Club for over 35 years. Tom enjoyed working in his beautiful gardens that gave him great joy for the 51 years he was married. He also loved skiing and kayaking with his wife Nancy. They enjoyed years of traveling together and spent many summers exploring Vermont and New Hampshire. Tom and Nancy lived life to the fullest, traveling the world for both business and pleasure.
