East Hampton, CT – Thomas Gerard Gallivan, Jr., passed away on August 19, 2026, in New Haven, CT. Born in Springfield, MA, on February 16, 1946, he was one of two children born to the late Thomas and Claire (Canty) Gallivan. Tom was raised in West Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Bentley College in Waltham, MA, and was self-employed for more than 30 years. After growing up in West Springfield, Tom raised his family in Ellington, CT. He later lived in Glastonbury before settling in East Hampton, CT in 2004.

Tom had a gift for making life memorable. He filled his daughters’ childhoods with after-dinner bike rides, days on the water, ski trips and road trips, summers in New Hampshire, spirited game nights and countless practical jokes. He coached their teams, attended their recitals, taught them to water ski and, whenever possible, found a way to make them laugh, even if that meant embarrassing them in the process. His sense of humor was legendary among family and friends, and an ordinary dinner, holiday or family gathering could become a story that would be told for decades.

Behind the humor was a man who loved his family deeply and often showed it by showing up. When his grandson was diagnosed with leukemia, Tom made it to the hospital before anyone else. When his daughter and future son-in-law were unexpectedly unable to come home from Florida for Christmas, he loaded a Christmas tree into his car and brought Christmas to them. He celebrated the milestones of those he loved with enormous pride and found particular joy in time spent together. Tom leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter and memories, and those who loved him will be telling them for years to come.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his sister Patricia “Trish” Gallivan. He will be dearly missed by his daughters Elizabeth Koscinski of Glastonbury, CT, Laurie Morin and her husband Mark of Enfield, CT, and Kelly Myers and her husband Randy of Glastonbury, CT. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Richard Koscinski, Kara and Kaytlin Morin, and Kyle and Isla Myers. He will also be lovingly remembered by his longtime partner Barbara Maloska of East Hampton, CT, and her son, Justin, of Rochester, NY.

There will be a Memorial Visitation at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME from 10 - 11 a.m. on September 15 with a Memorial Service at 11 am. Committal will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery.
