East Longmeadow -Thomas Francis Mahoney, 79, of East Longmeadow, MA and formerly of West Springfield, passed away, surrounded by his children, on December 31, 2014. Tom loved to read his newspapers and was very active and helpful with family and friends. He enjoyed vacationing at Cape Cod, relaxing on a bench watching people, telling a good joke and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. Originally from Springfield, MA, he was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and John, his wife Audrey (Murphy) Mahoney and a son, Sean Michael Mahoney. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, serving from 1958 through 1964. Tom was a member of the West Springfield Lions Club for 45 years and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He is a former employee of Boston & Maine Railroad, held transportation positions with Spaulding, Buxton and Combustion Engineering, which later became ABB where he retired. Tom is survived by his brother, Joseph Mahoney and his wife Janice, his daughters Mary-Beth Ballard and her husband Jeff and Chris Mahoney and her partner Kim and son Stephen Mahoney and his wife Jen. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his loving companion and best friend Dottie McMahon, her family, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, January 6th from 4-7PM at the TOOMEY-O�BRIEN Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 7th at 10AM at the funeral home, 11AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St. with burial to follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Catholic Charities Agency, 65 Elliot Street, Springfield, MA 01105 or National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter, PO Box 845945, Boston, MA 02284-5945.
