Obituary
Walter John Chlastawa, 89, of White Street passed away Saturday at home. He was born in Westfield on February 18, 1930 to the late Frank and Sofia (Kwapien) Chlastawa. He lived his entire life in Westfield. Walter worked as a tool grinder and spent 20 plus years at Berkshire Industries. He was an avid pool player and competed in many of the local leagues over the years. He also loved playing poker. Walter was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his tomatoes. He was the loving husband of the late Mary J. (Kocsis) Chlastawa who passed away in 2012, beloved father of Walter M. Chlastawa and his wife Karen of West Springfield, Jean M. Chlastawa and her spouse Susan Griesemer of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Laura C. Kellogg and her husband Bruce of Westfield, and the late Mark J. Chlastawa who passed away in 1996. He is survived by a brother Frank and his wife Ruth of Westfield and a sister Helen Frigon and her husband Larry of Enfield. He was a devoted grandfather of Jennifer Fedyna, Ryan, Kevin, and Sofia Chlastawa, and Alex Bancroft, cherished great grandfather of Brandon, Kayla, Julie, Stephanie, Kevin Jr., Sarah, and Amber Lynn, and father-in-law to Peggy Chlastawa. Walter also leaves several nieces and nephews. There will be Celebration of Life Service 1 PM Friday at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld. The service will be preceded by a 1 hour visitation from 12 noon – 1 pm at the funeral home. A burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. In lieu of flowers donations in Walter’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
