William R. Ellis

William R. Ellis (Bill) 88, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023 at his home, in West Springfield, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield, MA to the late William and Ada Ellis. Bill graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1952. He played semi-professional baseball for the Chicago Cubs and attended American International College for Business. Bill bought a local Auto Repair Shop, Sol’s Tire Service in 1974 and the business has remained in the family. He was married for 55 years to the love of his life, the late Patricia (Dennis) Ellis who passed away in 2011. Bill leaves behind his two sons, William R. Ellis Jr. and his wife Donna Ellis of Westfield, and Jeffrey Ellis of Agawam. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Erika Ellis, Derek Ellis and his wife Chelsea, and a great- granddaughter, Riley. Bill also leaves behind his sisters, Barbara Schniekart, Patricia Cianci, and Deborah Battone. He was predeceased by his brother George Ellis, and two sisters, Elizabeth McNerny, and Marilyn Breor. The simplest pleasures in life brought great happiness to Bill. He loved to watch sports; football, baseball, and horse racing. He loved a good family dinner out, and he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. Bill was a generous family-man who will be truly missed by all. Calling hours will be held at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4:00PM-6:00PM with a Funeral Service at 6:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
