Obituary
William E. Gehring, Sr., 86, of Lower Beverly Hills passed away Thursday at Heritage Hall West in Agawam. He was born in Springfield on February 10, 1934 to the late Frederick and Mary (Rame) Gehring. He lived all of his life in West Springfield and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. Bill retired in 1990 after working 29 years as a technician representing the Bowling Division of AMF. He serviced the bowling machines at the White House and met Bill Clinton while working there. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He loved the ocean and sailing his sailboat on long trips. He enjoyed all types of music and having a good time. Bill’s favorite hobby was constructing model boats and airplanes. He was the loving husband of 64 years to Nancy L. (LaFortune) Gehring, beloved father of Andrea Booth and her husband Neil of Langdon, NH, Frederick Gehring of E. Hartford, CT, Wendy Moore and her husband Jeff of PA, Patti Chisholm and her husband Kevin of Huntington, Elizabeth Dugas and her husband Rick of Yarmouth, ME, William Gehring, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Westfield, and Randall Gehring and his partner McKenzie of West Springfield, and devoted grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of 19. Bill was predeceased by his brother Donald Gehring formerly of Stamford, CT. There will be a Committal Service Saturday, January 9th, 11 AM at St. Thomas Cemetery in West Springfield. There will be a Celebration of Bill’s Life scheduled for a later date in the summer. Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations in Bill’s name may be made to the JERICHO, The Bureau for Exceptional Children, P.O. Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041 or to the LBDA (Lewy Body Dementia Assoc.), 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
