William Winnie

West Springfield - William “Bill” James Winnie, 85, of West Springfield, MA passed away Friday March 31, 2023. William leaves behind his beloved wife Nancy of 48 years. He was born in Northampton Massachusetts and graduated from Northampton High School. William was patriotic and was proud to serve his country. For 38 years he was the Chief Master Sargent for the 104 Tactical Fighter Group at Barnes Air Force Base. His active duty included traveling to London, Turkey, Spain and Germany during the Berlin Crisis. After retiring from the Air Force, William continued working in the civil service field for the United States Post office for 10 years. William was an active member at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, The Sons of the Revolution, The Sons of Unions Veterans of the Civil War and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots, fishing, camping, genecology and reading on his porch. William leaves behind 6 children; William Winnie Jr. of Northampton, MA, Brenda Jose of Buxton, ME, David Winnie of Sanford, ME, Daniel Winnie of Saco, ME, Paul Walski of West Springfield, MA and Ami Jasmin of Southwick, MA. William loved all of his children, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A Graveside service will be held April 13, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
