Aurius “Pat” Joseph Mahue, Jr., 94, of Notre Dame Street, passed away Wednesday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in West Springfield on June 24, 1926 to the late Marie (Gaudreau) and Aurius J. Mahue, Sr. He grew up in West Springfield and later lived in Springfield but then settled in Westfield 56 years ago. He was a Police Officer for the City of Springfield for 29 years, retiring in 1981. After that he was self-employed and worked in advertising sales for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a WWII United States Marine Veteran. He saw active combat against the Japanese in several military campaigns. He later served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was the recipient of the Silver Star for saving the lives of 9 soldiers as a Combat Medic. He was a member of the Westfield Evangelical Free Church. He was a 30-year member of the F.G.B.M.P.I. and was formerly President of the Pioneer Valley Chapter. He was the loving husband of 56 years to Bertha J. (Sampson) Mahue, beloved father of Gary Masotti, Bruce Masotti, Sandra Piette, Pamela Gaulard, Richard Mahue, Daniel Mahue and was predeceased by his daughter Catherine “Dolly” Harland earlier this year, and several siblings, and he was the caring brother of Theresa Mahue and Rosalie Napoli. He also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be a private Committal Service at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westfield Evangelical Free Church, 568 Southwick Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
