Charles Eugene Clapin, 87, formerly of Providence Place passed away Sunday (2/14/21) at the Palmer Healthcare Center. He was born in Holyoke on July 18, 1933 to the late Charles and Anna (Couture) Clapin. Charlie graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke and continued his education at Holyoke Community College and UMASS. He received a Master’s Degree from Springfield College in 1962. Charlie was a teacher Granby High School retiring in 1991. Charlie was inducted into the Holyoke Catholic High School Athletic Hall of fame in 2011 and 2015. He was a devoted communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, walking with friends at the Holyoke Mall and playing golf at the Orchards in South Hadley. Charlie was the loving brother of Shirley Clapin of Palmer. There will be a Funeral Mass 10 AM Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby followed by a Committal Service at St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke. Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations in Charlie’s name may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 State Street, Granby, MA 01033.
