David J. Bruso

December 22, 1946 ~ December 15, 2021 (age 74)


David J. Bruso, passed away on December 15th at Mercy Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia. David was born December 22, 1946 in Springfield, son of the late John W. Bruso and Shirley H. (Pendleton) Bruso. He graduated from West Springfield High School in 1964 and remained a lifelong resident of West Springfield. David’s expertise was in accounting and bookkeeping. He held the position of Chief Financial Officer for W.F. Young Inc. in Springfield before moving to the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton and finished his career in a semi-retirement position as bookkeeper at Arnolds Autobody Service in West Springfield. He also served for a time as Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Town of West Springfield. His passions included spending time with family and friends at his lake house in Goshen MA, cooking, fishing, building wooden model planes, tinkering with anything that needed fixing and genius level New York Time’s word puzzles. From an early age he acquired a fascination for rocks and minerals from his grandfather, Ernest Pendleton. David spent years building an impressive rock collection suitable for a museum.

David was predeceased by the love of his life and wife, Veronica “Ronnie” Bruso and his beloved son Daniel Bruso. He is survived by his youngest son John D. Bruso with fiancé Chrissy Zatorski; daughter-in-law, Sandra Bruso; grandchildren, Claire, Charles and Audrey “Will” Bruso; his sisters Joyce Bushey and Judy Pashko; brother-in-law William Bushey and nephews Gregory & Christopher Bushey; his niece’s Carly Pashko and Christina Cronin & Ryan; cousin, Wendy Hutchins; in-laws, MaryAnn Peterson, Dennis Peterson and Martha McCallum as well as many cherished friends and extended family.

A memorial celebration will be held when it is safe for family and friends to gather. In lieu of flowers, David would appreciate you having a Sunday dinner with the people you love just like he did each weekend. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
