On Thursday January 28, the world lost a gentle, caring, and generous soul. Edward Joseph Novak of West Springfield, born February 4, 1932, passed away due to COVID-19 at the age of 88. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years, Diane Calchera Novak, his 4 children, Cynthia Naroff and her husband Joel of Holland, PA, Deborah McNaney and her husband Patrick of Easthampton, MA, Lisa Tenaglia and her husband Andrew of Atkinson, NH, and his son, James Novak of Bristol, CT. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, Adam, Brian, Benjamin, Samantha, Joseph, Chelsea, and Bryanna.
Edward grew up in Easthampton and attended Easthampton High School. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He raised his family in Southampton until he and his wife moved to West Springfield in 1987. He retired from Digital in 1994. Edward enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Southampton and golfing with his family at the Southampton Country Club. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Easthampton where he was a member of the Men’s Club, and St. Thomas the Apostle in West Springfield. Throughout his life he was an ardent fan of local sports teams and celebrated with relish the many championships of his beloved Red Sox and Patriots. To all who knew him, whether by name, Ed, or by his nickname, “Bullet” he was a good friend, a good neighbor, and a devoted family man. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. Services will be arranged at a later date. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
