Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Buckley) Miller, 94, passed away peacefully, on April 29, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in Manchester, CT and lived there until moving to West Springfield, MA in 1965. She graduated from Manchester High School and St Agnes School of Nursing. She always loved children, and in the late 1940s worked as a pediatric nurse. Her favorite job was caring for children with polio and other orthopedic conditions at the Newington Hospital for Crippled Children. After marrying Roland in 1952, she was able to care for more children – her own – as a devoted mother. Betty also taught nursery school and kindergarten for many years. She was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was patient and always looked for the good in people. Her remarkable bond with children grew out of her enduring optimistic outlook on life. Most importantly, her deep and abiding faith sustained her throughout a full life. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Elizabeth is survived by her seven children: Gregory Miller and his wife Karen, Peter Miller and his wife Veronica, Susanne Gendron and her husband Bill, Teresa Leporati, William Miller, Mary Jane Cardello and her husband Joseph, and Lisa Megliola Corridan and her husband Michael. Elizabeth also is survived by 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Miller of AZ and Carol Miller of CT. Elizabeth was predeceased by the love of her life, and husband of 63 years, Roland, her parents Teresa (Hackett) and John Buckley, her sister Marie Langrill, and by her grandson Jeffrey Leporati. Calling hours will be 4-7, Tuesday, May 10 at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield.
