Geraldine “Gerry” M. (Forgue) DePretto, 92, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, on Friday April 23, 2021 and was welcomed into heaven by Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Blessed Mother, and those who came before her. Born in Springfield, October 31, 1928, the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Edna (White) Forgue. Gerry was the beloved wife for 65 years to the late Walter E. DePretto. Together they created a close, loving family that brought them tremendous joy. Gerry’s greatest accomplishments was her family. She leaves Catherine Bussolari and her husband Jack of Longmeadow, Susan Majka and her husband Frank of Wilbraham, Mary Mathews and her husband Rick Bielawski of Delaware, Ann Calabrese and her husband Joseph of West Springfield, Christine Carpenter Gleason and her husband Peter of Whately. Her loving brother Michael Forgue and his wife Charlene, known as her sister-in law, but more like a sister, both of Belchertown. You could often hear Gerry boasting about her 16 grandchildren and more often was found saying, “How blessed am I to have 18 great grandchildren!” She was predeceased by her son Walter DePretto, Jr., who left behind his wife Donna, her granddaughter Lisa Calebrese, her brother Donald Forgue and sister Dolores Forgue SSJ and her sons-in-law John Mathews and Keith Carpenter. Gerry was a communicant of St. Thomas Church. She gave and supported the Church in numerous ways: eucharistic minister, acolyte, Bright Side, and so much more. In her last few years as a devout Catholic she celebrated mass at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church. Her faith was integral to who she was and in typical fashion you could find her walking the hallways of Armbrook saying her rosaries. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and worked at Providence Hospital X-Ray Department for many years. We will miss her warm smile, her hugs, her daily calls, and her “I Love You” at the end of every phone call. Gerry’s funeral mass will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield with the burial to follow at St Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield. Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lisa’s Light of Hope, PO Box 72, Feeding Hills, MA 01030.
