Grace Magdalene Colbert, 91, passed away Monday at Mount St. Vincent Nursing Home in Holyoke. She was born in Springfield on November 29, 1928 to the late Charles and Amelia (Lyons) McCarthy. She spent most of her life in West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School. Grace worked as a machine operator at American Bosch from 1972 – 1982. Previously she worked at WICO Electric formerly of West Springfield and prior to that she worked for the West Springfield School Department in the cafeterias of both Cowing Junior High and the West Springfield High School. Grace was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church and she was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 207. She was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas E. Colbert, Jr. (1987) and her son Thomas E. Colbert III (2014). She was the beloved mother of Marie Colbert and John Colbert, and devoted grandmother of Nicole Colbert, all of West Springfield. Grace also leaves several nieces and nephews. All funeral and committal services are private and Toomey- O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life Service scheduled at a later date.
