Joanne M. Nassif, 89, of West Springfield passed away peacefully Monday, August 31, 2020. Born on March 21, 1931 to the late Joseph Faneuf and Helen (O’Neill) Faneuf, Joanne was raised in Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949. Upon graduation, she immediately began working for New England Telephone and eventually retired from AT&T after 42 years of service. Joanne was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and then of St. Thomas the Apostle in West Springfield. She was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed bingo, card games, puzzles, shopping, and regular lunch dates with her family. When she was able, Joanne was a fixture at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and celebrated each and every milestone with all of them. Joanne was predeceased by her husband, TSgt. Donald H. Nassif, who passed in 1953 during his service in the Korean War. She was also predeceased by her brothers Joseph Faneuf of Danvers and Edward Faneuf of Revere, and her sister Helen Reigner of Springfield. Joanne is survived by her daughter, Donna (Nassif) Barkman and husband David of West Springfield and her grandchildren: Elizabeth (Scott) Kosior of West Springfield, Kirsten (Joseph) Premont of West Springfield, Kathryn (Michael) Walsh of Arlington, David (Kate) Barkman of West Springfield, and Jamie (Barry) Dorman of West Springfield. She also leaves 8 beautiful great-grandchildren, whom she adored. In addition, Joanne is survived by her sister, Rose Marie Coughlin, of Agawam and many beloved nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather to remember Joanne on Friday, September 4 at 11:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA. A private burial will follow at The Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. The Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
