John M. Cauley, 78, passed away Dec 31, 2020. He was born June 9, 1942 to the late Patrick and Eileen Cauley. John left school in 1960 to join the Army National Guard and returned to East Longmeadow High School to graduate in 1962. He was a member of the 48th RTT Class for the Massachusetts State Police and graduated on September 23, 1967. After retiring in 1989 as a Detective from the State Police, he went on to become a Deputy US Marshall and retired in 2016. John was a life long fisherman and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed Old Western Movies, traveling to St. Thomas Island and playing Keno. John was a lifetime member of the Springfield Elks Lodge #61 and the Knights of Columbus in East Longmeadow. John was particularly proud of his Irish heritage. He leaves his son Joseph Cauley and his wife Taylor of Agawam, son Michael of W. Splfd., his brother Phillip Cauley and his wife Jean of Palmer, his sisters; Patricia Gebo of E. Long., Margaret “Peggy” Cauley of Westfield and Nancy T. Cauley of S. Hadley along with several nieces and nephews and close cousins. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Bob Gebo. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held SAT 10 AM in St. Thomas Church, 47 Pine St., W. S. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held FRI from 4 to 7 PM at TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 WESTFIELD ST., W. SPFLD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s name may be made to the State Police Association of Massachusetts Benevolent Fund.
Due to COVID-19 Restrictions, anyone attending either the Calling Hours or Funeral Mass are required to follow the state protocols of wearing a mask and social distancing.
