John “Jack” William Kunasek, Sr., 88, of Sequoia Drive passed away Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in West Springfield on December 28, 1932 to the late William and Lillian (Bracken) Kunasek. He served for 25 years as the first Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of Agawam and retired in 1994. He was a Korean War U.S. Marine Veteran and was a member of the Korean War Veterans’ Assn. Jack also worked for the Washington Nationals and was a member of the Mass. Baseball Umpire’s Assn. He was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed traveling and building model airplanes. He was very active and committed to Agawam athletics. He spent a good part of his life coaching, umpiring, and organizing sporting events. He was the beloved husband of Sandra R. (Rivers) Kunasek, loving father Dale Leddy and her husband Brian of Agawam, Dawn Sullivan of West Springfield, and John Kunasek, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Feeding Hills, devoted grandfather of Melissa Raynor, Mark Leddy, William and Matthew Kunasek, and Adam and Andrea Sullivan, and cherished great grandfather of Mariah Leddy and Madison and Lily Sullivan, and Averi Kunasek. Calling hours will be Monday from 3:30 - 6:00 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld. The funeral will be Tuesday 8:00 - 9:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a 9:45 AM Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Agawam. There will be an 11:00 AM Committal Service at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Through all the services we ask everyone to wear masks and adhere to all social distancing protocols.
