Milo G. Wingard, Jr.

August 3, 1929 ~ November 12, 2021 (age 92)


Milo Guy Wingard, Jr., 92, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, with his three children by his side. Milo (Jack) was born on August 3, 1929 in Pomona, CA to Milo G. and Helen (Brown) Wingard, Sr.  The family lived in Riverside, CA and moved to Salinas where his father ran a printing press at the local newspaper. He graduated from Salinas High School as valedictorian and received a scholarship to M.I.T. where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, Milo stayed on at M.I.T, working in the lab developing rocket fuel. He then went to work at North American Aviation, first in California and then at Cape Canaveral, Florida, where worked on the Navaho rocket development test program. In 1958, Milo came back to New England to join his father-in-law’s construction company, T.A. Pearson Associates, Inc., and later, Pearson Systems, in West Springfield, MA. At that time, he moved his family to Longmeadow where he was a member of the town planning board and active in his children’s activities, T.A. Pearson Associates and Pearson Systems are known for building commercial buildings throughout western Massachusetts and Connecticut. Milo retired from Pearson’s and moved to Orleans, MA on Cape Cod, where he spent the last 30 years. From 1960 to 1980, Milo spent summers with his family on Lake Wickaboag, in West Brookfield, MA, where he enjoyed boating and waterskiing. He built and flew remote controlled airplanes to the delight of spectators in their boats and on shore. Eventually, Milo became a private pilot and flew his Piper Cherokee all over New England, and beyond. Milo also flew with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, assisting in Search and Rescue missions off the coast of Cape Cod. Milo had a life-long passion for, and was a collector of antique guns. Milo was predeceased by his loving parents, Helen M. Wingard and Milo G. Wingard, Sr. He was formerly married to the late Patricia A. (Pearson) Wingard and was predeceased by his beloved son, Scott P. Wingard. Milo was the loving father of Deborah A. Wingard of Nashua, NH, Richard H. Wingard of Glastonbury, CT and Kim W. Modlish of Westfield, MA and her husband, Stephen, and caring brother of the late Kenneth Wingard and Kristin Powell, her husband Edwin and their daughter Emily of Washington state. He was the devoted grandfather of Dylan and Drew Wingard and Travis, Tyler (fiancee Alicia Lewis) and Nicole Modlish and the cherished great grandfather of Dylan Lewis, and Abigail and Mason Modlish. He was the loving uncle of Thomas, Allan and Stephen Grace, Linda Montessi and Craig and Michael Wingard. There will be a Committal Service on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield, MA. A luncheon will follow. Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
