Patricia A. (Hill) Dolan

May 4, 1946 ~ May 15, 2022 (age 76)

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Ann (Hill) Dolan announces that she died peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Pat was a beautiful artist, loving mother, loyal friend, and wearer of silly hats. She was a graduate of West Springfield high school, earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, and even continued her thirst for knowledge by earning an accounting certificate at the age of 70. Over her impressive career, she worked at the architectural firm Perkins &Will, oversaw the pottery program at the Austen Riggs Center, was a ceramics instructor at Holyoke Community College, and most recently retired as a digital imaging specialist from the Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton, MA.
Patricia’s art spanned many mediums. She was an award-winning photographer, painter, sculptor, jewelry maker, and even scrimshander! Everything she did had her distinctive artistic style. In her young adulthood, she was well-known in the region for her sweet-faced “Doughboy” figurines that she made from bread dough and sold on the craft circuit. The Doughboys were featured in local papers, and she once appeared with them on a popular morning television program.

Patricia loved movies, spending time with her friends and her daughter, going to restaurants, art shows, and being around animals. She longed for the ocean. She loved taking the ride out to “P-town” on Cape Cod and once had a jewelry store in Hyannis and an art gallery in Rocky Neck (Gloucester, MA).  She loved music, even though she was a terrible singer. She could be found listening to Axl Rose, Prince, and Bruno Mars. She’d watch footage of Monterey Pop and talk about the time she saw Janis play at Tanglewood.

Throughout her life she was a socially conscious person, caring deeply about people and society, and working to end stigma against mental illness.

Patricia leaves behind her daughter, Emily Dolan of Lynnwood, WA, her cousin Janet (Elder) Kraus of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and her children and families, her cousins Chris Wenzel and Peter Osteyee, her beloved cat Sunny, and her many close, lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her mother Eleanor Hill Osteyee, sister Joanne Hill, and aunt Virginia Elder.

We will gather in memory of her on May 28th from 10am to 12 pm at 107 Druids Lane, West Springfield, MA.
