Longtime West Springfield resident Peter L. DeGrandpre, 77, died peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Springfield to the late Leo Lester and Rita (Herrick) DeGrandpre, he was a graduate of the former St. Michael’s High School in Northampton, Northampton Commercial College and the Gemological Institute of America. A Certified Gemologist, Peter was employed by DeGrandpre Jewelers, Inc. since 1965. He succeeded his father as President in 1980, until his retirement in 2019. Peter served as Corporator, Trustee and Director of Easthampton Savings Bank and was a former member of its Executive Committee for over 30 years. He was a faithful communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. A lifelong Boston sports fan, Peter was a longtime Red Sox season ticket holder. He enjoyed golfing and always looked forward to trips to New Jersey to visit his precious grandchildren and walk the beach. Peter will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years Gail (Gruppioni) DeGrandpre, their devoted sons; Mark DeGrandpre of Suffield, CT and Eric DeGrandpre and his wife Lisa of Wayne, NJ, his twin sister Patricia Laudato of Sanford, FL, brother Jeffrey DeGrandpre and his wife Deanne of CA, two cherished grandchildren; Matthew and Mia DeGrandpre, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Peter was also predeceased by his brother-in- law Kenneth Morris, sister-in-law Janice (Gruppioni) Underhill and brother-in-law Alphonse Laudato. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Peter’s Funeral will be Friday at 9:00 AM at Toomey O’Brien Funeral Home to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Rd., Second Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
